Rialto Community Drug Team

The Rialto Community Drug Team (established in 1992) is a community- based harm reduction response to alcohol and drug use in the local area.  It is essentially an open access and low threshold approach to working with those who use alcohol and drugs, offering a range of supports, inclusive, non-judgemental and user friendly.  Services offered include:

  • A daily drop in centre

  • Twice weekly dinners

  • Breakfasts and snacks

  • Assessment and referral

  • Key working and case management

  • Counselling focusing on addiction

  • HIV, bereavement, relationships and other issues

  • Community based detoxification supports

  • Family support

  • Housing support and advice

  • Outreach

  • Holistic therapies and special evenings

  • Community prison links support and an ex-prisoner peer support group

  • Weekly mindfulness groups

  • Mental wellbeing groups

  • Creative groups

  • Women’s groups

  • Men’s groups

  • Child care and family support programme, including a morning crèche three mornings weekly.


The RCDT also hosts three HSE methadone prescribing clinics weekly and on-call needle syringe exchange outreach and support.  All are welcome to attend the Centre.  A full spectrum of care, advocacy and support is offered.


In the short term we commit to working towards destigmatisation and empowerment and in the medium term to service user involvement in the management and delivery of services and activities. The RCDT is also committed to working collaboratively with other addiction, social care, welfare and community agencies in the local area and beyond and are actively engaged with the Canal Communities Local Drug and Alcohol Task Force.

Housing

This service is provided for people who may be experiencing issues around housing and/or homelessness. There are a multitude of issues surrounding people’s accommodation such as homelessness, rent arrears, housing repairs, anti-social behaviour, eviction notices, rent allowance, estate management, transfers. These issues are dealt with in a strictly confidential manner on a one to one basis.

Addiction Services

All substances worked with: alcohol, amphetamines, benzo’s, cannabis/weed, cocaine, ecstasy, head shop, heroin.

Opiate substitution treatment (methadone) stabilisation, detoxification

We offer a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where everyone is treated equally. People can have a friendly chat over a cup of tea or coffee with one of our staff and have their needs assessed to determine which service would best suit their needs.

Community Prison Links

Support, Aftercare, Advocacy

The Community Prison Links is available to anyone from the area who is in prison. The aim is to connect with people in prision and to assess and develop a positive post release plan. These plans are client centred and individual to each person. Community Prison Links helps to link prisoners into services within the community. We also offer access to drug treatment, training, education and onward referrals to other services in the community while continuing post-release support. Community Prison Links offer support to family members where appropriate.

We use a mixture of holistic therapies to promote natural healing. ​Some of the benefits of Complementary Therapies are:

Playschool and Childcare

Early Years Playschool Service

RCDT childcare service offers a high quality service, practical support and advice to parents/carers through our Early Years Playschool. This is a free service.

Play Based Activities/ Circle Time/ Arts & Crafts /Music & Movement.

Child & Family Support Service

We also offer a therapeutic service for clients of our service, along with referrals from other agencies.

  • We use children's play to help them build their confidence, to mix better with others, to talk about their feelings and to thrive in their development. 

  • We work 1:1 or in groups.

  • We can work with ‘parent & child’ to help them build on a more positive relationship.

  • The service supports children with communication /emotional/behavioural difficulties. 

  • We support parents with their child/ children’s developmental needs.

 Men's Health Group

The Men's Health Group is a non-judgemental, activity based drop in group that supports individual needs and group needs  along with topical discussions such as health, diet and nutritional advice. The group also helps to identify relevant training.

Activities include:

  • Art

  • Discussions

  • Exercise (gym work)

  • Fishing

  • Pitch 'n' putt

  • Other outdoor activities

Family Support

Family support is a service we offer to families that respects the lived experience of families affected by drugs and alcohol in a welcoming, non-judgemental and confidential way. Family support raises awareness of the difficulties families face everyday within drug and alcohol use.

This work is done through:

  • Outreach

  • Advocacy

  • Care plans

  • Women’s groups

  • Case conferences

  • Hospital visits

  • One to one support

  • Group work

  • Legal advice
